Pastors Corner

June 12, 2011

    Col 1:9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

     Let me ask you a question, why do you believe what you believe?  Did someone tell you that or is it because of the denomination you belong to.  Others might say well, my grandfather believed this and I agree with him.  If some are truthful some would say, well we are making it up as we go.

     So if someone was to pin you down where you could not get away and you had to give an answer and you had to tell why you believe what you believe.  Could you?  And here is another question, could you back it up with scripture and then allow scripture to interpret scripture.

     Peter deals with this very thing when he tells us in 1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness, and fear;

      He says be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks, the question is could you?  You see I believe the most important thing for you and I is to know what we believe and who we believe in.  I also think that I should be able to articulate these beliefs.

     My question to you is this, can you back up what you believe by the word of God?  Have you pulled out just one scripture to support what you believe or can you show other scriptures that support your beliefs.

     Here is another point, has the Holy Spirit confirmed in your Spirit your belief system with the scripture.  I believe the Lord wants you “to be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

    There are things that I can listen to and just say that I don’t know,  but there essential doctrines that through the years God has confirmed over and over again in my heart through the word of God and the wonderful Person of the Holy Spirit that this is true and upon those precepts I will not and won’t budge.

     You see what I would ask from you is that you study to know the word of God, when you don’t understand something, then go to your heavenly Father and tell Him, Father I don’t understand will you have the Holy Spirit teach me what this means.  Jesus told us that when the Holy Spirit would come that He would teach us all things.  You have the greatest teacher inside you that anyone can have.

     My prayer is that you will begin to develop your belief system and know what you believe.  Or in the words of the Apostle Paul “ For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day” II Timothy 1:12
