Hebrews 11:1: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

I have always tried to teach you about this verse of what Faith is and according to the above verse real genuine faith has two aspects. It has substance and it has evidence.

Substance, since we are asking for God to intervene and the thing or things that we are asking for, the answers, have at that time not materialized then I need something concrete not abstract. That substance is the word of God and that word is forever fixed in the heavens. What I do when I have a problem is to find a scripture to hang on to and that word of God becomes my anchor in my storm. It is the life preserver that will keep me afloat until the answer comes.

The second thing is evidence, the substance was for us and the evidence is for God, He is looking to see if you will trust Him completely in this matter. We get so caught up with how much faith we have. Even to the point of guilt that we feel that if we would have had more faith maybe the person we were praying for wouldn’t have died. Remember that in Luke 17 Jesus is talking to the Disciples and he tells them if someone offends them in one day 7 times they were to forgive them. Now the disciples just like us tells Jesus that if He wanted them to forgive like that then He was going to have to increase their faith.

Listen to how Jesus answers them, Luke 17:6 The Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. The Lord is telling us it is not how much faith that we have. The truth is it is who we have faith in. I can’t do anything because I don’t have the strength but my Lord does. The Lord is looking for people who want to trust Him in every detail.

Faith is not believing long enough, faith is aligning my beliefs with what God says. I used to fly weekly and we would practice what is called “touch and goes”. That means you take off get into the pattern and then land again and then immediately kick the airplane and take back off. I have done this time and time again. The one thing you learn about good landings is a good landing is not made at the point the wheels touch down, and good landing is made all the way back on the downwind leg of the landing. At that point you are still 1500 feet above the ground. But you must have the right speed and the right setting of flaps, the right altitude. If you don’t you could come in to hot or too short or even over shoot the run way.

I believe this is the same thing when we begin to pray with God in a tough situation or circumstance. The ability to stand started long before the problem got there. Day after day of trusting, waiting and learning to ascertain the leading of the Holy Spirit. You become so sensitive and you add to your faith, faith. So when all of sudden this storm shows up you are ready, no you are more than ready because you have found that God is real and He is close, so close that you can reach out and touch Him.

His promise to you and I is James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

This Sunday I am not going to lead off with a scripture because I am going to use so many scriptures in this writing. Every Sunday we read in our church what I would call “My Identity in Christ”. If you have come to know Christ as your Lord and Savior then this is who you are and all of this is based upon God’s word.

I believe much of the problem today of people trying to live the Christian life comes from them not knowing who they are in Christ. Many are still trying to justify themselves before the Father, all the while thinking that He is mad at them or they can never do enough to satisfy the Lord.

We believe that when Christ bowed His head at Calvary and said “it is finished” it was”. You cannot add to or take away. So here is what we say every Sunday Morning and the scriptures that go along with it.

I am deeply loved and that is propitiation. I John 4:9-10 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Completely Forgiven and Fully Pleasing and that is Justification II Cor. 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Totally Accepted by God and that is reconciliation. Col. 1:19-21 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And also Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Finally that we are absolutely complete in Christ and that is regeneration. II Cor. 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

From day one when I became the Pastor of Grace Bible Church it has always been my goal that our people would comprehend the Grace of God. That they would be free to live the Christian life in righteousness and holiness, in joy and peace. To live victorious and be overcomers because the word of God in I John tells us that which is born of God overcomes the world.

My prayer for you is not that you would just say these words every Sunday but that they would become a reality in your life and that you would know that you know.

I never want our people to be living under the old covenant but to be celebrating the new, born again life under the new covenant.

Pastor Lee Cruse the pastor who the only hope for is the redeeming work of Christ and Christ alone.

John 14:6: "Jesus said unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Jesus describes Himself as the I Am. Do you remember when Moses was encountering God the Father and God was sending Moses to Pharaoh to tell him to let His people go. Moses was making excuses and said “who will I tell him that sent me”. The Lord told him to tell Pharaoh “I am that I am” it means He is the one who has always been and has never ceased to exist”. Now Jesus employees those same words “I am”.

Seven times our Lord uses this phrase to describe Himself, He said I am the bread of Life, I am the light of the world, I am the door of the sheep fold, I am the good shepherd, I am the resurrection and the life, and I am the vine.

The seventh one is John 14:6 I am the way, the truth and the life. Now think about this, Jesus had just told the disciples that He had to go away, go to Calvary and die and then resurrect. But they didn’t understand what He was saying.

He looked them straight in the face and said John 14:3 And I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am there you may be also.

Then He says “And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Now Thomas speaks up and said to Jesus, “Lord we do not know where you are going and how can we know the way”?

Are you in a place that it seems to be dark all around you and that you cannot see the path? Do you seem to be rambling through darkness and guessing at decisions just hoping that they are right? Have you lost your way, and the answers that you are getting are lies and not the truth, and are you just enduring life rather than living life.

Then you just like Thomas need to listen to what the Lord’s answer is, it is a person, not a solution or methodology, no it is a person and that person is Jesus and He is the answer to helping you find the way the truth and the life that you have always wanted.

I have just about quit watching the news because it is so filled with guilt and despair and lies. I in no fashion thought that Donald Trump would be the savior but you hoped that they would at least allow the process to work. But Washington D.C is broken and our government is not the answer!

The answer is right before us today and it is Christ the Lord, the Savior, the God of Heaven and Earth and He is saying to us in this dark hour and dealing with things that we don’t understand and see no solution to fix anything. That He is the way and that He is truth and that He is the life.

He is the way to raise your children, He is the truth to questions that all of us have and you will not believe a lie when you trust Him. He is the answer to your financial problems, He is the answer to purpose and meaning in life. There used to be a program on TV the life of the rich and famous. When you look at the end results of those rich and famous, it is not so appealing. But the good news Jesus has said He is the life, the life of righteousness, and peace and joy that we all want.

Our Lord is ready and willing to give that life to anyone who wants it if we will turn the steering wheel of our life over to Him.
